Scalp Micropigmentation

What Is The Difference Between Microblading and Scalp Micropigmentation

So whats the difference you say ?

Microblading and scalp micropigmentation (SMP) are two completely different cosmetic procedures with different purposes and techniques:

  1. Microblading:
  • Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup technique generally used to enhance the appearance of eyebrows using pigment. It is generally done to reshape them, fill in sparse eyebrows as well as create a more defined look.
  • During microblading, a technician uses a manual  tool with tiny needles to deposit pigment into the skin's upper layers which then will create  hair-like strokes that mimic natural eyebrow hair for the client. This technique uses number of different colours to match the client's natural eyebrow for that undetectable results.
  • Microblading typically lasts around 1 to 2 years, depending on many factors such as skin type, aftercare and client's lifestyle.

2.   Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP):

  •  Scalp Micropigmentation also known as SMP is a non-surgical cosmetic procedure used to camouflage hair loss by creating the appearance of a closely shaved scalp ( 5pm shadow look). It is mostly used to treat conditions such as male pattern baldness, alopecia, thinning hair as well as facial lost of hair.
  • During SMP procedure specialized pigments are applied to the scalp using specifically designed needle and a tattoo machine. The artist carefully creates small impressions to replicate the look of hair follicles. This creates the illusion of a fuller head of hair or a much defined hairline.
  • SMP when done correctly by by experienced clinic like Luxe Micro in Melbourne is considered a long-term solution for hair loss, lasting several years. However, touch-up session will be required over time to maintain the desired appearance every few years.

To sum it up while both microblading and scalp micropigmentation involve the application of pigments to the skin, they are very different to each other and serve different purposes and techniques used. While SMP is used to simulate the appearance of hair follicle on the scalp microblading focuses on enhancing the eyebrows.
