Scalp Micropigmentation

Can Hair Loss Significantly Impair Self-Esteem?

Hair loss is inevitable for most men, and it comes as a sign from your body that you are indeed getting older. Although having fewer hair follicles on your head is not the end of the world, men who go through hair loss see it as a warning that many of their other physiological functions will start to decline as well, which significantly affects their confidence.

Is hair really that important among men? In this article, we will be determining whether hair loss can seriously impair self-esteem, specifically among men.

What causes hair loss?

Hair loss can be caused by a variety of factors, including heredity, an underactive thyroid, cancer treatment, or drugs used to treat other health problems. However, male pattern baldness is most frequently caused by androgenic alopecia. The scalp becomes more sensitive to the hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone) in this condition, shortening the hair development cycle and decreasing hair follicle output. As a result, specific parts of the head, such as the crown and temples, generate fewer hairs over time. The hairs that do sprout are more delicate and brittle than they were previously.

Why is hair a defining factor in a man’s image?

When you pass a mirror next to a male friend or family member, nine times out of ten, you will see him running his hands through his hair. Even if you know that he’s not vain enough to care too much about his looks, it is almost certain his hair will be the first thing he’ll examine and adjust.

For most men, hair has long been the key indicator of confidence, and the numbers will agree with this as well. Considering that the men’s hair restoration industry is worth $2.6 billion, we can say with utmost certainty that men attribute a lot of their good looks and self-esteem to their hair.

How does hair loss affect a man’s confidence?

In general, thinning hair signals lost youth, which makes a lot of middle-aged men feel insecure. Let us be honest; nobody enjoys the prospect of growing older and being labelled as “old.” The thought of being past your prime is a hard pill to swallow indeed. Once it gets harder to hide a balding scalp, you can notice it affects your outlook towards yourself and your self-esteem.

Significant self-esteem loss can result in thoughts of deformity and even depression or anxiety disorders. All these factors will significantly hurt the overall quality of their lives over time.

Once a man starts to see hair loss, they begin to hide their head through the use of caps or hats. In some cases, some men try to avoid meeting people or social interaction altogether. Meanwhile, others try advertised “magic potions” that have been allegedly proven to help them grow their hair once again. While this works for some men, this only makes other balding men feel more hopeless.

How do I prevent hair loss?

The good news is that, as medical science and technology develop, there are now more options than ever for restoring and regenerating hair. Obtaining medical assistance is critical for controlling male pattern hair loss and low self-esteem. However, before continuing, consider scheduling a consultation with your doctor if you are experiencing abrupt or severe hair loss. Certain illnesses, such as thyroid problems, may resist home cures and necessitate treatment of the underlying reasons.

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a hair loss treatment option that is suitable for a variety of different circumstances. It’s a therapy option that many men resort to when other hair loss treatments fail. Unlike other forms of hair loss treatment, Scalp Micropigmentation is 100% successful. This is a permanent operation that can last up to six years or longer, depending on how the procedure was performed and how it is maintained in the years afterwards.

Give yourself an advantage by starting early

Although natural balding is virtually irreversible, you can protect the hair that you still have from damage that may eventually result in thinning. If your family has a record of family members with androgenic alopecia or any other condition that leads to hair loss, always assume that you will experience it as well. If you notice signs of it, consult your doctor or inquire about FDA-approved products that can improve the strength and growth of your hair follicles.

Remember that hair loss treatment does not simply happen overnight and is a six-month process at best; you don’t need to rush it. The important thing is that you’re taking the necessary steps to mitigate it.

Reminding yourself that hair loss is not fatal

Hair loss does not have to mean a reduction in your capabilities at work, at home, or in your social life. With various hair restoration treatments available to you, you can regain control of your receding hairline. Simultaneously, you retain control over your health. Rather than succumbing to preconceptions or others’ preconceived views about ageing, you can take a stand against mother nature by maintaining a full head of hair.

However, if it’s really not working out in your favour, you will have to live with thinning hair or a bald spot. If it makes you feel any better, you’re not the only one! Never allow your hair to dictate your worth as a person; it’s not the end of the world. It will only control your life if you give it control, so keep your head up and take good care of yourself!

Disadvantages of scalp micropigmentation treatments

There are very few, if any downsides to scalp micropigmentation treatment, but it would be churlish to not mention any we can think of. The only real disadvantage we were able to conjure up is that, as with any tattoo, the body will naturally break down the ink over time. As we have seen, SMP tattoos sit on a shallower dermatological layer and are therefore prone to fading over time. With sweat, lotions, and weathering from the sun and other elements, clients will probably need to return for ‘touch-up’ treatments every few years to maintain the desired effect.
