Scalp Micropigmentation

How scalp pigmentation can complement your facial hair

Beards are back, it’s official. Whether as an expression of stylistic choices or as a nice way to hide any facial scarring, the beard is here to stay but the fact is that not all beards are created equal. Not all beards behave the way their owners want them to, growing nice and evenly ready to be shaped and trimmed as required. And some refuse to grow at all. On the other hand, some beards grow into thick, bushy affairs but the scalp refuses to join the party and remains barren. It is quite normal for men of all ages to be unable to grow full beards or have patches and thinning areas or even a great, lush beard but nothing to match it up top.

This is where beard/scalp micropigmentation can be the answer and help to fill in the gaps, creating the illusion of a consistent, non-patchy beard, a full head of hair, or both. Here at Luxe Micro, we wanted to write an article that looks at the use of this amazing treatment and dispels any myths or misinformation that might be out there about it.

What is beard/scalp micropigmentation?

These treatments involve the careful application of pigments into the skin that build up to give the appearance of total hair coverage, albeit close-shaven. The applications usually take place over several sessions and, if the process is carried out on the lower part of the face, will give the impression of a full, even beard.

How scalp pigmentation can complement your facial hair

If you already have a full beard but want the scalp to match, it is possible to fill out thinner patches on the scalp and conceal any bald spots. This is a fantastic way to complement any facial hair and the colour of the beard/scalp micropigmentation will be carefully matched to look amazing and restore your style and confidence.

Are the treatments safe?

When undertaken by trained professionals like those you will meet at Luxe Micro, micropigmentation:

  • Is completely safe
  • Achieves reliable results
  • Is easy and suitable for all
  • Has no side effects
  • Lasts for extended periods if properly cared for

It is a method that has been used for many years safely without ill effects, so you can relax knowing that you are in no danger and that your dream results are a few short sessions away.

What happens after I arrive?

The first thing you can expect on arrival is a private consultation with one of our trained technicians. They will talk to you in-depth about how you want the finished result to look, and any issues or concerns you might have. The goal is to achieve the most natural-looking effect possible by matching skin tone and existing scalp/facial hair colour and we take our time in this. The pigment will be built up starting with lighter tones and increasing the darkness over several sessions, spanning an agreed period of time. The timing is something you will discuss with your consultant, but most sessions do not last much longer than an hour.

How long does the effect last?

Most clients choose to have a refresher session 3-5 years after the initial treatment is completed. Pigment fades naturally, even with deeper tattoos and having a session to touch up any faded areas is recommended. Avoid:

  • Too much vigorous shampooing
  • Exposure to harsh natural elements

Generally being as gentle as possible when cleaning the scalp or beard will help tremendously in extending the longevity of the treatment. Natural elements, especially the sun and sea will also cause the pigment to fade more rapidly, so precautions should be taken if this is a concern.

Will it hurt?

It would be disingenuous of us to say beard/scalp micro pigmentation treatments are completely without discomfort, as we all have different pain thresholds. What we can say is; the levels of discomfort are generally much less than people expect and are lower than experienced when having a tattoo or hair-transplant procedure.
